Rousay Lap 2010 Results

The results of the Rousay Lap 2010 are now in, with participants choosing to either run, walk or cycle around the island yesterday, Saturday.

The weather conditions were ideal for the 13.1 mile route, with blue skies and sun throughout the day, together with a light breeze to keep those taking part cool.

The fastest finishing time - 43 minutes and 44 seconds - was achieved by cyclist, Torquil Clyde. The fastest runner, Mitchell Fraser, crossed the finishing line after just 1 hour, 36 minutes, and 1 second, while of the walkers, Ian MacDonald was the first to complete the Lap, in 2 hours, 54 minutes, and 37 seconds. All three beat last year's quickest times in their respective categories.

Fourteen Under 16s took part, with 14-year-old, Paul Kerr cycling the route in under 45 minutes - making him the child with the fastest time, and giving him the second quickest time out of all of the participants. Last year's quickest child, Egilsay resident, Jordan Basford - now 12 - improved on his 2009 result by almost 12 minutes, cycling around the island in just under 1 hour and 24 minutes.

One particpant used his skateboard to complete the Lap, taking nearly 2 hours and 20 minutes to finish, while a dog even joined his owner in running the Lap, together finishing in just over 2-and-a-half hours.

In completing the Lap, several people raised money for charity; among them were Community Nurse, Ingrid Murray, and Dr Felicity Brand, who ran together for The Prostate Cancer Charity, raising just over £1,800 in the process.

It is only the second time the event, organised by Rousay, Egilsay and Wyre Development Trust, has been held, with the number of participants - 77 - increasing on last year's 60.
