Running, Walking and Cycling around Rousay

The Rousay Lap was held for the first time last Saturday, 29 August, with great success. A total of 60 entrants braved the wet weather, to complete a Half-Marathon spanning 13.1 miles.

The fastest time, 47 minutes and 3 seconds, was achieved by cyclist, Mark Dowell. David Grant was the fastest runner, with a time of 1 hour, 38 minutes and 12 seconds. The first walker to finish, Roderick Miles, took 3 hours, 25 minutes and 54 seconds.

Twelve Under-16s started the Lap, with Egilsay's Jordan Basford, 11 years old, the first to finish. Coming ninth overall, he cycled around Rousay in just 1 hour, 35 minutes and 21 seconds.

A special mention goes to Becky May, who not only managed to cycle around the island in just over an hour, but then immediately completed the lap twice more, taking a little over 3 hours in total!
