Orkney Ferries proposes new policy on un-accompanied children

Orkney Ferries is proposing to introduce a new policy on un-accompanied children, affecting all of its vessels.

Under the new guidelines, children under the age of twelve would not be permitted to travel on board its vessels, unless accompanied by an adult aged at least 16 years old. The only exception to this rule would be eleven-year-olds who use Orkney Ferries' vessels to travel to secondary school, subject to prior arrangement between Orkney Islands Council and the applicable parent or guardian.

Comments on this proposal are invited, to be received by 15 April 2010.
