Rousay recuits a permanent GP
The position of permanent GP on Rousay has been offered to, and accepted by, Doctor Richard Brunt, who will provide cover to the four-island community of Rousay, Egilsay, Wyre and
Gairsay.
The recruitment of Dr Brunt follows on from a lengthly consultation process between NHS Orkney and both the local Community Council and the wider community, culminating
in a vote on future health care options by members of the community in December 2010, which saw 70% of voters opt for 'Option B'; a model which will involve the GP providing
24-hour cover for the islands, except for two days each week, when he will travel to a mainland practice to work for 1.5 days, with a further half-a-day off each week.
He will provide all of the Out-of-Hours care on the four islands.
While the GP is off-island, the cover will be provided by the Community Nurse, who will work for 4 days a week on Rousay.
Dr Brunt is expected to commence work in the autumn of this year, following a 3-month period of notice with his current employers.
