Rousay targets sweet success
Fitness centres around the county have been set a new challenge for this year's autumn/winter season, with last year's winners, Rousay hoping to emulate previous success.
Following on from 2009's 'Deliver a Letter to Santa' challenge, which saw Orkney's fitness centres go head-to-head to be the first centre to cover the journey to Lapland - a total
of 2,608 kilometres - using fitness centre machines, the new challenge is a completely new idea.
Entitled 'The Great Chocolate Challenge', the goal is for each centre to burn off as many calories as possible, which will then be converted into the equivalent number of
Celebration sweets, which contain an average of 41 calories per sweet.
Every user of the centre is asked to log the calories they have burnt during their session on a special 'Calorie Log Sheet', from data obtained from the centre's cardiovascular
machines, which can each give accurate readings of the calories burnt.
Prizes will be awarded to the male and female who burn the most calories over the course of the challenge.
Rousay's fitness centre, located within the school building, opened in November 2007, and is currently open 7 days a week.
