Rousay Pupils Open Community Wind Turbine

Pupils at Rousay Primary School joined together to pull the ribbon around the Community Wind Turbine on Kingarly Hill today, declaring the turbine officially 'open'.

The children burried a time capsule, containing details of their individual aspirations for both themselves and the community, which will be re-opened when the turbine is decommissioned in 2031. They each read out what they hoped to be doing in 20 years' time to members of the community who had come to join in the celebration.

After pulling the ribbon, everybody was invited to draw around one of their hands on the turbine. Local artist, Rachael Harris will shortly be painting over the hands, to create a unique 'Circle of Hands' artwork around the turbine.

The pupils and other members of the community were also able to have a look inside the turbine, as Turbine Responders, Richard and Jess, were on-hand.
