Another job opportunity with the Development Trust

Rousay, Egilsay and Wyre Development Trust is seeking to fill yet another vacancy this month, as it advertises for a Part-Time 'Turbine Development Officer'.

After accumulating the funds required to install a 900kW community wind turbine at Kingarly Hill, Rousay, including an award of £435,000 from the Big Lottery Fund earlier this year, the Development Trust now requires a suitable person to follow the project through to completion.

The islands of Hoy, Shapinsay, and Stronsay are also set to install their own community turbines, and will appoint their own Part-Time Turbine Development Officers. In addition, a Project Management Contractor will be appointed, and shared between the 4 communities, as well as the island of Eday. By working together, the communities will save a total of £160,000.

The Development Trust's successful applicant will be employed for a total of 17.5 hours per week, at £12.50 per hour, for an expected period of 2 years.

The job involves the following duties:

  • To co-ordinate the installation and commissioning of the site at Kingarly Hill
  • To act as a key point of communication between the Development Trust, its trading subsidiary, an appointed Project Management Contractor, as well as third-party contractors, and stakeholders, such as the wider community
  • To liaise with the appointed Project Management Contractor
  • To develop working relationships with volunteers and employees of the Development Trust
  • To compile monthly progress reports for local groups and funders

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Enthusiastic
  • Flexible
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Good team-working skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Good organisational skills
  • Computer literate
  • Good communication

A good understanding of relevant construction projects would be advantageous. In addition, an interest in renewable technology and/or community sustainability and development would be desirable.

The successful applicant may need to attend relevant training.

The deadline for applications is: Friday 28 May 2010, 5pm.

An Application Form and Job Description is available from rewdevtrust@googlemail.com, or by telephoning 01856 821235.

The vacancy represents an exciting opportunity to oversee a project which is expected to generate a £2.7 million community trust fund for Rousay, Egilsay, and Wyre, over a 20-year period. This will provide a vital boost to the islands' economy, ensuring the continued development of the 3-island community, in areas such as business and transport.

It has been a busy month of recruitment for the Development Trust, with a 'Gardener/Project Co-ordinator' and two 'Loft-Empitiers/Workers' expected to be recruited this month, following completion of the interview process.
