'The Race to Infinity'
Rousay, Egilsay and Wyre are being given an opportunity to vote for BT to look at ways of improving broadband sevices on the islands.
Telecommunications giant, BT has recently launched a nationwide campaign, in which people can vote for their local community to receive superfast, fibre optic broadband.
The campaign, entitiled 'The Race to Infinity' is aimed at areas that are not already on BT's roll out plan, with the top five exchanges with the most registered interest
(as a percentage of the total potential voters) being fast tracked onto the plan for superfast broadband.
With less than the required 1000 potential voters, the Rousay, Egilsay and Wyre exchange is not eligible to win 'The Race', however BT promises that if 75% of the area's exchange
registers their vote, BT will "engage" with the community, to see what can be done "to bring better broadband" to the three islands.
To register your vote for getting better, faster broadband on Rousay, Egilsay and Wyre, go to:
www.racetoinfinity.bt.com
Once you are on the website, simply enter your postcode, and click 'Go'. You can then 'Skip Intro', before clicking 'Vote Now' in the top-right of the page which follows.
You don't have to be a BT customer to vote, but each landline can only vote once.
Hurry - voting closes on 31 December 2010!
