Rousay Lap



Description:

A Half-Marathon spanning 13.1 miles around the island of Rousay. Participants run, walk or cycle the event. Entry is FREE. Anyone can take part in the Lap - children and adults from our community, from the rest of Orkney, or even further afield.

What has happened so far:
  • August 2009: Event was first held on 29 August 2009, with 60 entrants.
  • 17 September 2009: The Trust was awarded £1,000 by the Big Lottery's '2014 Communities' Fund for the above event.
  • 30 July 2010: The Trust was awarded £1,000 by the Big Lottery's '2014 Communities' Fund for the Rousay Lap 2010.
  • August 2010: The Lap was held for a second time on 28 August 2010, with an even greater, 77 entrants (an increase of 28.3%).
  • 29 July 2011: The Trust was awarded £1,000 by the Big Lottery's '2014 Communities' Fund for the Rousay Lap 2010.
  • August 2011: The Lap was in its third year when it was held on 27 August 2011. Despite a poor weather forecast, 72 people took part.
  • February 2012: Funding for the Rousay Lap 2012 was applied for, from the Big Lottery's '2014 Communities' Fund.
  • March 2012: Awarded £1,000 funding from the Big Lottery's '2014 Communities' Fund, on 30 March 2012.

What happens next:
  • The Development Trust has considered adding "a triathlon element" to the Lap.
